Top 5 Tuesday: Books That Would Make Good Montage Scenes

Top 5 Tuesday is a weekly meme created byย Bionic Book Wormย and is now hosted byย Meeghan Reads. This weekโ€™s topic isย Top 5 Books That Would Make a Good Montage Scene.

Unfortunately, I don’t have a strong enough memory to completely accurately fulfill the prompt this week which is to pick book scenes that would make a good montage for a movie/television show. So instead I’ve picked 5 books that have general material in them that I think could be made into a good montage scene rather than a strict scene to montage vibe. Please keep in mind that some of these will have spoilers since they’re later books in the series!

1. The Queen of Nothing by Holly Black

I think the beginning scenes that describe what Jude’s life has been like since returning to the human world would make a good montage scene. I would love to see flashes of the jobs she’s taken to earn money and to keep her skills sharp while she fumes about what Cardan did at the ending of The Wicked King. The montage could end with Jude’s fight with Grima Mog and jump into the present storyline.

Wrap-Up: February & March 2021

This month I’ll be writing about the books I read in February and March. I don’t usually combine months but I was unable to read anything in February until the tail end of the month and, before I knew it, it was way past time to make an appropriate wrap-up post. I wasn’t able to read as much as I wanted to in March since my sibling and I took a spontaneous (but safe!) road trip for her Spring break but I’ll be including some pictures from the trip to make up for it! So without further ado, let’s get into the recap of my past few weeks.

Books I Read in February:

The first book I wanted to jump into when I was able to read again was The Cruel Prince by Holly Black. One of my best friends has raved about this series for as long as I’ve known her and I was super eager to read them. So I binge read the entire series during the last week of the month. Unfortunately, I didn’t love them as much as she does but I think that may be due to the fact that I read Maas’s writing first and subconsciously compared the series to ACOTAR (which I enjoyed much more than these). I have a post detailing 5 things I liked about the series and 5 things I didn’t like which you can read here but overall I sit in the unusual camp of feeling that the series became better as it went on rather than being disappointed like other readers. It’s a young adult fantasy series featuring a human who has been brought to the faerie world to live out her life after her parents are murdered.

5 Things I Liked About The Folk of the Air Series by Holly Black; And 5 Things I Didn’t

once upon a time, there was a human girl stolen away by faeries, and because of that, she swore to destroy them.

I’ve finally rectified one series from my list of series I wanted to start! Unfortunately, I didn’t care for these books as much as others have and don’t have enough to say about each installment to warrant a full review of them. So instead I’m going to hit the highlights of things I liked about the series, and things I disliked. This list will contain spoilers! Let’s get started.

Things I Liked:

1. It stuck to fae legend.

Although the A Court of Thorns and Roses series owns a special chunk of my heart when it comes to both fantasy and faeries, I liked that this series held closer to the traditional legends of the Fae comparatively. The innate terrifying quality of the Fae was kept in this series along with the legends that they cannot lie, are incapable of breaking their promises, and are able to enchant a mortal into anything they want. It brought a unique depth to the series that I haven’t read in others yet.
